Spilled Bath Time Paints
My wife promised the kids an amazing bath time later in the week since she did not want to deal with a long and messy bath one evening. The kids were looking forward to it all week. When the time came to pay the dues, my wife had nothing planned.
She thought about the different activities she could set up and decided to do a spooky bath time. We had a cheap laser light device and she used that to set the mood and also put on some Halloween music. As the kids got ready for the bath, she made some paints out of cornstarch and soap. Each little pocket in this silicone tray had a different color in it and the kids could paint the walls during their bath. When the kids saw what bath time was going to be, they were super happy.
Somewhere in the middle of the bath, my 5 year old daughter spilled her paint tray into the bath water. She was sad that she did that, but instead of whining or throwing a fit, she decided to have a good attitude about it and made spooky water. My 4 year old son decided to play along and spilled his paint tray in the water as well. They ended up playing in the spooky water for a long time and after they had their fun, they got cleaned up with non-spooky water.
I’m glad that the constant discussions about trying to have the right attitude (and ideally a good attitude) about things is landing well with the kids. A long time ago, there would be many tears and a ruined bath time is that happened. Now, there is better than a coin flip chance that things still turn out well. I’m glad my daughter is taking those chats to heart and they ended up having a happy spooky bath time because of it.
