Lasting Mean Girl Feelings

My 5 year old daughter has been loving kindergarten. I’m glad she does because she missed a bunch of classes to begin the year. I was worried that she wouldn’t make friends as easily or that the class would be a bit further ahead, but it all worked out really well thankfully. She tells me how much she loves kindergarten a few times a week.

My daughter also tells me how much she loves her new kindergarten friends and it makes me happy, but she also brings up the fact that some of her daycare friends were mean to her and that the change has been good. It makes me a bit sad that when she looks back at daycare, she remembers some of those hurtful times her friends put her through. To me, I’m glad she had some growing pains though as a silver lining because she learned to deal with those difficult situations early on. Good to get in some reps before kids really start being meaner.

I do know that the good times in daycare usually revolve around her teachers. She also brings up how she misses certain teachers she had and luckily, she still can see a few of the ones she used to have. The teachers at her daycare really care for her and it’s sweet to see the interactions when she sees them.

Overall, I’m feeling grateful that she is having a good time in kindergarten and is making new friends. She even made one of her friends a little purse so she could bring them the unfinished fun foil mask her friend was working on during a play date. It was so thoughtful to do and I’m glad she likes her friends in kindergarten a lot better. Hopefully it stays that way!
