Sofa Injury Part 2

My 4 year old son C got injured on this sofa at the place we were staying at a few years ago. I asked him to stop standing up and running on the sofa, but he didn’t listen. There was a wooden chair with a tablet on it that was close to the sofa since that’s what they were watching. C ended up slipping off of the sofa and busting his face on the wooden chair. He was lucky that it was in between his nose and his teeth, so even though his lip was swollen, it could have been much worse. On the same sofa, he ended up getting injured again.

C was messing around at dinner, so I told him to get away from his 6 year old sister E and to go play elsewhere. Once dinner was over, E and C were playing rough with their grandpa (my father in law). They were horsing around and C fell off the same sofa.

At first I thought it was just a bruise of some sort. That’s the most likely since C hit is foot on the ground. When he couldn’t put any weight on it, I was thinking it was a sprain. It’s weird that it would be a sprain since kids have loose and soft ligaments at that age and it was near the top of his left big toe. His foot swelled up quickly and that was it for the night. We tried to put the kids to bed and C fell asleep early.

I went to my parents to see them and that’s when my wife texted me that C kept waking up complaining that his foot hurt. I ended up grabbing some reusable ice and some kids Tylenol for him while heading back home. By the time I got home, he was in and out of sleep, but didn’t want the ice. The Tylenol helped him feel better and he was finally able to fall asleep after a while.

The whole ordeal was stressful because we didn’t know what was wrong with his foot and we still had another day before traveling back home. Add to the fact that it was in the middle of the night and seeing C in pain was hard. I was glad he was finally able to sleep and this is why we don’t want to learn things the hard way. The hard way entails going through all the pain. The easy way entails listening and following the rules. Hopefully this will be a wake up call for C in the future to learn the easy way.
