Color Factory
My kids love to go to the Color Factory. It’s a museum with interactive exhibits that highlight specific colors around an experience. One of the first times we went there, I was blown away and my kids had a blast because it wasn’t like any other museum they’ve been to. Now they want to go all the time.
My 4 year old son C ended up missing this most recent visit because he still couldn’t walk on his injured foot. He injured it the prior day falling off of the couch. I originally didn’t want to go anymore, but my 6 year old daughter E really wanted to go. She asked my wife and my wife encouraged me to take E - so I did.
In our travels, it was quite hectic shuttling back and forth between my parents’ place and also taking care of the kids. Throw in C getting injured and I was thoroughly stressed out and sad, but the Color Factory trip with E was just what we both needed. It was a time away from everyone and for the two of us to just enjoy each other’s company.
Since E had been there a few times, she knew which exhibits she most wanted to see. We took pictures at every stop, but for the exhibits where she wasn’t excited to see, we spent less than 5 seconds on it. If C had come along, the time spent at the Color Factory could have easily been 3-4 hours since they would play crazy games at every stop.
There was one exhibit that E wanted to skip, but since it was just the two of us, I wanted to do it. It was one where you sit across from your partner and color some squares for their favorite color and the colors they are wearing. You also draw your partner’s face without picking up your pencil. I drew a crazy drawing of E and she did the same for me. We had a few good laughs in the room.
Of course the favorite stop was the space themed ball pit. E had such a blast playing there and we buried each other, swam around, toss balls at each other, and I may or may not have thrown her a few dozen times. She had so much fun laughing and playing, but we needed to go. When we stepped out and at some ice cream, she asked to go back in. Normally, I would say no and rush off, but that day, I entertained the idea and back we went for more shenanigans.
By the time I was tired going all around the ball pit with E, it was time to go. She had so much fun and seeing her smile throughout the whole visit was worth it. E is getting to the age where she is really into art, so an extra trip to the Color Factory could only help in that department. All in all, we danced, threw confetti, kick and punched some giant balloons, wore funky glasses, played Lite Bright, did some art, found out she was magic, and did two rounds of ball pit fun. That was all in about 2 hours, which was record time in my book.
