Oh, Wow, and Ahhh

My baby boy L is 11 months old. He has full blown opinions now and is trying to learn all of his words to figure out how to get what he wants. I think he is almost entering toddler-hood because he now has an attitude and he is already a bit mischievous.

If I ask L what he is doing when he is in a cabinet he knows he shouldn’t be in, he will start smiling and keep rummaging through it until I pick him up. He also does this thing where if he notices something, he says oh over and over again while pointing. It’s the cutest thing. He also says wow if he is truly amazed at whatever he notices. This is reserved for things that move or light up. Or also things that he does, such as stacking cups on top of each other. This is also the cutest thing.

When L is frustrated, he screams ahhh as loud as he can. He also has nails that he will grip your skin with if you are trying to prevent him from doing something he really really wants to do. He is ready to fight, but this is rarer (thank goodness!). He mostly gets frustrated at himself if he cannot accomplish something he puts his mind to. Recently, he has been infatuated with the Yoto box and the cards that make the music start. He takes the card out and tries to put the card back in the slot. It’s pretty hard to do and he has figured out how to consistently do it now, but they times he is unsuccessful, he will scream ahhh.

L has also started to come up with games to play. He loves stacking, putting objects through slots, and placing things where he thinks they belong. He also knows what he should not do, but that doesn’t stop him from playing certain games. L has known he should not be playing with the little urinal my 4 year old son C used, but the mischievous baby decided to drop a bottle of hand sanitizer in there when it was full of pee. He then said oh oh wow wow because he accomplished his goal. Lesson learned that everything can turn into a game for L.

This is around the period of time where I can see my kids’ personality start to really shine. They become curious little ones and love to explore. All of my kids are very fiery (lucky me) and have a mischievous streak (extra lucky me). At this point, I think it’s genetic because we are 3/3 in this camp. I’ll just continue to appreciate the time when L is this little because it doesn’t last forever (and part of me is thankful for that!).
