100m
My 6 year old daughter E has been doing swim lessons for a while. Now we are targeting doing a 50m swim freestyle and a 50m swim breast stroke so she can start preparing for her artistic swimming class this summer. She has been infatuated with it since the Summer Olympics since it mixes her love of dance with her love of being in the pool.
Today was the day she actually did the required 100m in her swim lesson without stopping (50m of each stroke). It’s crazy to me that she is growing up so fast and learning how to do all these things. I know every parent goes through this, but to me, it’s mind blowing since I still see her as my baby at times. E did the 100m without rest too and is starting to learn flip turns so she can keep swimming laps. Again, crazy.
Even though my 4 year old son C can’t go swimming until his foot fracture heals a bit more, it’s fine since I now get to spend time with E and I try to put baby L to sleep before I leave for swim. That way, my wife and C can also spend 1 on 1 time with Mommy. I think E had a lot of fun with me after her lesson last week, so she told me she was looking forward to this week because we got to play together after her lesson.
After her lesson, she was wanting to dive for rings and after getting them all, we could pick a front flip, a back flip, or a somersault to do in the water to celebrate. We did a few rounds of that and then E wanted to dance in the water. She put on a bunch of performances and had me twirl her, pick her up so she could pose, and used me as a pedestal to stand up on. At the end of her performances, she stood up on my hands and tossed the rings into the water. It was so cute.
I’m glad we can spend some silly time together so she can still be a kid since she seems to be growing up so quickly. Even though the days are sometimes hard with each kid having different needs (and sometimes fighting over it), these little moments make it so worth it to be a parent. That’s what I love more than the big splashy (pun intended) days like a birthday. I love all these little moments just being silly in the pool.
