Weekend Trip

A few weeks ago, we decided to take a long roadtrip to the lake. It was a really really (really really really) long drive with all three kids and the stuff we needed. We haven’t really taken a long roadtrip since the baby was born and I was honestly dreading the trip because I knew I wasn’t going to get any sleep. Neither was anyone else.

The drive itself wasn’t bad since the baby slept most of the way there through some miracle. It was only the last 25 minutes that were filled with loud screams and cries. Once we got out of the car, chaos ensued. We were met with the force of their cousins and the weekend got started. All the kids played together and ended up not sleeping the first night outside of a few short hours. Rinse and repeat the second night. And the third night. By the last day, I was exhausted and ready to go.

When preparing for the trip, it was more of trying to mentally let go of our routine and just understand that things are not going to be exactly the way that we want it to be. It’s a new environment and they are surrounded by their cousins. Sharing a room to sleep and the living spaces for 3.5 days definitely provided too many distractions for the kids and at least the all had fun through the whole trip. Because I was able to just let go (for the most part!), I also had an enjoyable time outside of the lack of sleep. Still wouldn’t do it again if I had a choice with kids this young, but I’m glad we pushed through with it since the kids had a blast.
