Unfamiliar Terrain
My 4 year old son C loves to run. He needs to burn all of his energy to sit still and the travel day we had the prior day ensured that he had plenty of energy to expend. Since it was sunny outside, he went to go play.
My wife took him and our 6 year old daughter E outside and luckily there were some other kids playing as well. They ended up having fun and I was inside cleaning up. After I was done, I went outside also and all of a sudden, I could hear crying. It sounded like one of my kids and sure enough, it was C walking back up the rocky steps. Apparently he fell and scraped up his face. It was the first day of our trip and he was already fell down badly, but luckily it was only a few scrapes.
I talked to him about making sure that when we are in unfamiliar terrain, to be extra careful - especially when climbing up and down those rocky steps. Once we did it a few times and feel confident, we can run faster and faster. That way, it won’t end up with a bad fall. He nodded his head and I got him cleaned up. C went with my wife and father in law to the grocery store to get some bandaids to patch himself up. What a hectic first day.
