Two Parties

The weekend we got back from our trip, my kids wanted to plan their own respective parties. My 4 year old son C wanted to plan a space themed party and my 6 year old daughter wanted to plan a performance themed party. They were so excited to have the party that they prepared all sorts of decoration, activities, and made their own confetti.

It was awesome to see C so engaged in making things for his party. He wasn’t really into art for the longest time, but when he started to grip his pencil, normally, his love of art quickly expanded. He drew on every piece of confetti that he made for his party. When it was his turn for the party, we went into his room. The first activity was confetti throwing. We all took turns throwing confetti everywhere and picking them up. Even though C had a hurt foot, he was having so much fun laughing and playing that it was so amazing to see. We also ended up playing tag, where baby L was trying to get us. Then we would tag each other and run around the room (except for C who would crawl like crazy). We also ended up making up stories and telling each other what would happen. Some of the stories were extra silly and we ended up laughing a lot. Even though I was exhausted, it was an amazing party.

The next day, E had her performance party. She made these amazing curtains to hang up and also use some of the Nugget foam blocks we have to make a stage. This party also started with throwing confetti. She also made tickets for the performance part of her party, which would happen after dinner. Once we got to the performance, she wanted 10 separate performances all done by her and her little brother. Even baby L made an appearance or two. The lights were turned off and different music was played. We all sing random songs too. Of course E was the center of attention and capped off the dancing with a bunch of ballet and jazz dances. Even though I was exhausted, it was an amazing party.

After all of the hectic travel that we went through, it was really fun to have the kids planned out their own parties and host them. They did it all on their own and it really kept them busy over the next few days to make sure the parties went well. I love those little moments where they have an idea and just keep working at it until it becomes real. I’m sure they’re going to keep hosting bigger and bigger parties as they grow up, but hopefully they’ll never forget to have confetti. It’s the best way to start a party.
