Sleeping Arrangement

My 4 year old son C has been enjoying his sleeping arrangement with his 6 year old sister E. He gets to feel safe in bed and hang out in her room before falling asleep. This has mostly worked out and now they don’t come out bothering me or my wife very frequently. It’s been finally working and I have recently moved to another bedroom so I could sleep more peacefully. Fruits of my labor.

C was thinking about the future and he knows that once E gets a little older, she will not want anyone sleeping with her in her room. She will be brave enough to sleep there all by herself and she will also want the privacy. I don’t know what period that will be, but my best guess would be in a few years. She will probably want someone sleeping with her until she is close to the pre-teen or teen stage (a period I’m going to love…).

C was also thinking about his baby brother L. He knows what it was like to be small and scared to sleep alone. He wants to be there for L when L is much older and able to sleep in a big kid bed. When that day comes, C said he wants to share his room and the two of them could sleep together.

I love how thoughtful C is and how he is looking out ahead at what can be done to help out the situation in the future. He’s such a good big brother and even though I didn’t know how things would turn out when we first brought L home, I can say it’s working out pretty well (minus the lack of sleep and lack of free time part for me and my wife). Hopefully the new sleeping arrangement works out in the future as well and that C and L can cozy up together. Until that day, I’ll just enjoy the times we have now because they won’t be this little for long.
