Lunar New Year Party

My 6 year old daughter E had a Lunar New Year party at her elementary school. She was really excited about going and had already made a dragon earlier in the week. When the day finally came, I was the one that got to take E and my 4 year old son C to the event.

When we got there, a performance was already going on. There were singers, dancers, and musicians performing all kinds of things. We watched most of the performances, but then the kids started to get antsy. We ended up leaving and I thought I was home free. Sadly, there were games and I had to head towards them. Al least my kids were very excited.

E ended up finding her really good friend and they spent most of the time together. They had to collect stamps to earn a prize. E ended up bulldozing her way through each activity and even though I was tired, I loved the fact that she was taking initiative to find activities to complete. She ended up finishing her stamps and got a little toy. She was really happy and proud of herself.

C wanted to go home, but somehow had a change of heart. He wanted to earn his stamps too. I asked E to help him out and she took him around the room to compete the activities. She was being such a good big sister. They were moving around so fast that it was hard to keep up with them in a crowd. Thankfully, I knew it was a safe area since they were inside the school, otherwise I would worry quite a bit. It was one of the first times I didn’t have 100% of my eyes on them (because I couldn’t find them here and there). It was about 90% and that was good enough.

C ended up getting all of his stamps also. He got a little stuffed animal and he was so happy. I also got to keep their calligraphy that they worked hard on. It was a great keepsake from the event. Even though my wife was texting me to head back because it was late, I’m glad they set their mind on a mission and competed it. They had to use their soft skills and come up with a plan to figure it all out. I didn’t want to help them much to see what would happen and it made them very determined to get their stamps so they could collect a prize. All in all, it was a fun night and I hope they’ll remember their first Lunar New Year’s party at their school.
