I’m Hungry

My 3 year old son is constantly hungry…for fruit and carbs. We try to have him eat dinner so they he doesn’t need to snack before bed, but it has been a challenge. Unless he is ravenous from playing soccer or hiking or general playground shenanigans, he won’t eat his dinner by himself (nor will he eat enough of it if we spoon feed him).

Frequently after dinner on most nights now, I remind him that he needs to eat enough of his dinner so that he isn’t hungry later (and luckily he is a decent eater where he eats vegetables and protein…just not enough of them apparently). He always says he won’t be hungry later and when later comes, he is in need of a snack. Luckily for us on most nights, he wants to eat an apple. On some of those nights, he is a sweet little brother and washes an apple for his big sister.

Mealtime is always hectic at our home, but reflecting on it…it could be a lot worse. At the end of the day, there is food, there is variety that is eaten, and we usually do a treat after dinner so the kids get desensitized to sweets when they get older (we will see if this actually works…). We just have to work on the quantity, but at some point, we will get there!
