First Spring Break

My 6 year old daughter E was on her first spring break. She was home for a week and we originally wanted to go somewhere on vacation, but things got really expensive so we decided to do a staycation with her. We didn’t have anything necessarily planned, so we were going to figure it out day by day.

Since the weather is getting consistently warmer, we wanted to spend more time outdoors. After dropping my 4 year old son C off at daycare, we would find time almost every day during the week to take a long trek with E. At first E took a long time on this daily 2.5 mile walk when we started to do it a few weeks back, but now she is so used to it that she crushes the walks. My wife usually hangs out with her on the walk and takes our bernadoodle while I walk with our 1 year old son L strapped to me. It’s good quality family time and we are getting some decent exercise at the same time.

We also did some things differently and took E on a hike. She hasn’t been on a hike in forever and she loved being in nature (although I think our bernadoodle loved it more!). My wife also got some good Mommy-Daughter time and she took E to a beautiful garden where they could help shape things up. E loves flowers and of course she had the best time ever.

We also took E out to eat a handful of times (including ice cream) and she loved doing that. L was a bit crazy at times and wanting to run around the restaurant, but as a team, we managed it! We also brought E to the Nike Store and she ended up seeing a pair of shoes that she liked. We bought a size up and wanted to save it for her as she grew into it, but of course E wore it right away. When she has something on her mind that she wants to do, there is no stopping her!

Overall, even though we didn’t have anything planned, I think spring break worked out well. It was low stress and E got to spend quality time with us. We all got to spend more time outdoors and get some exercise as well. E said she has the best time ever and even though she will miss spring break, she missed school and couldn’t wait to finally be back. I guess I’m glad she loves school!
