Back to Swim

My 4 year old son C has been dealing with a foot fracture for the last few weeks. It’s finally to a point here he doesn’t need a boot. He can also begin some activities to get his leg back in the right shape because his muscles have atrophied quite a bit. It’s sad watching him walk around with a limp since he doesn’t really know how to walk without a boot, but I know he will also work his way out of it and back to his old self.

We are starting his activities slow and going back to swim. He went to his second swim lesson ever a couple weeks ago and I was really worried about how it would go. I didn’t want C to overdo things somehow and aggravate his foot. I also was unsure how he would actually do in the water being away for so long. C was obviously having a blast the second he got into the water and was just excited to move freely. He was fluttering around and his swim teacher grabbed him and off they went.

By the time swim class was over, the swim teacher told me how impressed he was with C. For someone that is only four, C is ready to start learning swimming stokes and getting to jump ahead. He didn’t have to learn how to hold his breath or be comfortable in the water and I think they early start in the pool helped out a lot when we were being our 6 year old daughter E frequently. I’m glad C did well, but honestly I’m mainly happy that C didn’t aggravate his foot (and had a lot of fun too!). Now this can be a consistent outlet for his energy until he is fully healed up!
