Who Cut the Hair?
A few weeks ago, my 5 year old daughter and 3 year old son were playing upstairs in the playroom by themselves. They were having a blast and surprisingly not fighting. It was going too well for too long, so I decided to check on them.
When I opened the door, they were still playing and cutting different things into smaller and smaller pieces. The playroom was a mess, but luckily it was nothing that was unexpected (and not messier than usual). When my son looked up, I realized that he looked different. Very different. Someone cut his bangs off in the middle of his forehead.
I asked if he did it himself and he nodded. Usually that would be the end of the story, but something was off because a lot of hair was missing. The cut was also very straight and I doubt my 3 year old could do that. I asked again if he did it and he said yes, but glanced at his sister. I asked if she did it and he shook his head. Now I’m starting to get suspicious and asked her if she was the one who actually cut it. She said no and went to hide her face and my son jumped in and said he did it and it wasn’t her. Based on that interaction, I now know the truth (at least I think I do!).
Even though my son has a horrible haircut, hair will grow back. What I will remember most is how my son was covering for my daughter. I don’t know if he thought she would get in trouble more because she is older and should know better, but whatever prompted him to cover for his sister was super cute. I hope that they continue to watch out for each other and protect each other as they grow up. I’m sure this isn’t the last time they will do something mischievous as well and I also hope they cover for one another the next time they get into an interrogation with me (because it’s super cute and funny to see!).
