Thanksgiving Gathering
We usually spend Thanksgiving with my wife’s family. She has a lot of siblings and with that math, my kids have a lot of cousins. It’s something that I am very thankful for because a big family means they have a lot of love around them (and a lot of people to play with).
This Thanksgiving, we spent it driving about 45 minutes to meet up with everyone. It’s not the longest car ride we have done with everyone, but it is one of the longer ones with everyone. My 4 year old son remembers when we did the same drive about a year ago and he screamed a lot at the end of that long car ride because he wanted to get out. It’s crazy that he can recall that a year later and he reminded me of that story (which I definitely remember) before we got in the car. Luckily, the car ride was a fairly smooth one.
It was the first Thanksgiving with my baby boy and I got to spend most of it holding him. I was holding him when we got there, holding him until more people started to arrive, and after he got passed around, I held him for his poorly timed nap (that coincided with the turkey being ready and everyone eating). I snuck in my own nap with him and just cuddled in the car where it was quiet.
Afterwards, I finally got to eat and just mowed down anything in my path. I was definitely full and there were lots of leftovers. We made the long trek home and even though it wasn’t as quiet as we had hoped (thanks to the crying baby), it was another good Thanksgiving in the books (and our first with the whole family). That’s something to be thankful for.
