School Volunteering
I recently volunteered at my 5 year old daughter’s school for an art project the kindergarten class was doing. She is always excited when me or my wife show up for one of their activities. It’s that enthusiasm that I’ll cherish because when they are older, I’m sure they’ll want nothing to do with me when it comes to school activities.
The art project revealed around drawing lines and coloring them in. The kids all had different interpretations of the project and it was interesting to see what everyone did. Some kids scribbled a huge cloud and said they made a scribble shield. Other kids just drew straight lines and were very methodical in coloring the spaces. My daughter was exploring all kinds of crazy patterns and shapes. She ended up using crayons and water colors to color in the shapes and seemed really proud of her work. Most importantly, she had fun.
I think the fact that I was there made her day even more enjoyable. I’m glad I could take the time to show up to her class and participate. Even though I was almost late and had to sprint to their school, I’m glad that it all turned out well after that exciting (and sweaty) run. She also seems to have a genuine love for all things art and design, so I’ll keep nurturing that love however I can (one volunteering session at a time).
