With The Baby - Introduction
Today is the first day of my paternity leave, so I will be with the baby constantly to help give my wife breaks during the day. She has been amazing this past week in making sure I get plenty of sleep at night to get over my cold (while taking care of our newborn at night). In return, I do want to have the baby with me most of the day (except during daycare drop-offs/pickups for my other two kids) and trying to complete chores/errands for the family. Hoping to get through this first month smoothly and we have already made it a week as a family of 5 (plus a 75lb bernadoode).
I am grateful that the company I work for offers a very generous paternity leave for non-birthing parents, so I will be spending the next few months bonding with my newborn and trying to hold things together as much as possible. With my other two kids, I was working elsewhere and although I am grateful for any paternity leave, I quickly realized the shorter leave was really difficult to settle into a new normal with each new child that is brought into the family. With an extended paternity leave ahead of me, I am very excited to get to know my little one and to focus on the most important thing in life (in my opinion) - family.
As I type this, I am with the baby and he is stirring. Time to go!
