Bee Careful
My 4 year old son C has been in a boot while outside since his fracture is healing. He hates wearing the boot, so we let him take it off indoors since he has been really careful walking around. He can even put a little weight on his foot without a boot, so we know the fracture is slowly healing (very slowly healing!).
To get around the house, he has a little rolling bee scooter he uses to zoom to the next spot. Since he has a lot of pent up energy, he now uses it to zoom with the bee around the kitchen. He goes in circles over and over again crashing into things. I have to constantly remind him to watch out because good drivers don’t crash their vehicles.
C listens for a bit and then goes back to crashing into things. Then he started to try and pop a wheelie by lifting the front of the bee while stopping. It’s super dangerous and when his foot is exposed, any fall could make the fracture worse. I keep telling him to bee careful, but he forgets after a while because he wants to have fun.
Now this is the sign that I should have picked up on and to put him in a boot indoors because he is feeling a lot better and getting crazier (but his foot fracture wasn’t completely healed). He didn’t get hurt on the bee, but he did get hurt getting riled up playing this weekend in the morning by running around different rooms while my wife was pretending she was going to spank them. C is usually careful getting around quickly even when playing, but something caused his foot to hurt this time around.
This is a lesson I had to learn the hard way and I’m sad C does also. He can’t put much weight on his foot and now we make sure to boot him up indoors. It’s gotten much better over the last few days, but no more risking it. We don’t want a complete setback and to start over from scratch again. Hopefully he heals up quickly and can get back to running around. And I’ll be glad he doesn’t crash his bee into everything.
