A Quiet Place

A quiet place is a good place to me when I’m trying to sleep. I need silence or the repeating lull of a white noise machine to get high quality sleep, which is now the norm after having kids. Somehow I have lost my super power to sleep anywhere at any time! I try to make sure my wife has that same environment so she can catch up on her sleep in the mornings.

One morning, I was particularly effective at juggling the three kids and our dog. Everyone was ready - from brushed teeth, to a change of clothes, to being fed, to the other hundreds of needs that happen each day. Somehow everyone was quiet through the whole morning. I was honestly really proud of everyone, including our dog for not whining and barking. It was also a weekend morning, so not a huge rush to get out of the house. I needed to keep everyone occupied and did. Great start to the day.

When my wife finally came out of the bedroom, I thought she would be full of energy. It was quiet after all and I felt like she most likely got a good amount of catch up sleep. It was quite the opposite. She said it was too quiet to sleep. She was actually awake most of the time…

I guess there is actually the right amount of chaos to settle the mommy brain because the perfect amount signals to her that things are going as planned. Who would have thought…I guess you can’t win them all.
